Abstract

Door access security plays a crucial role in protecting restricted areas, particularly by addressing the limitations of conventional locking mechanisms, which are vulnerable to key duplication and forced entry. This study aims to design and evaluate a smart door lock prototype based on an Arduino microcontroller that implements two-factor authentication by combining RFID cards and a PIN entered via a keypad. The system was developed using a prototyping approach, allowing the design and testing processes to be conducted iteratively in accordance with predefined functional requirements. System evaluation was carried out through black-box testing to verify functional correctness based on input–output relationships, as well as User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to assess user acceptance of the system’s performance. The evaluation results show a success rate of the test results (UAT) of 92.2%, demonstrating that the dual authentication mechanism effectively restricts door access by requiring both RFID card verification and a valid PIN before activating the door lock solenoid. In addition, the system provides immediate access feedback through an LCD display and a buzzer indicator. Based on these findings, the developed system shows potential as a more controlled and reliable alternative to traditional door locking mechanisms within the evaluated usage context.
